Budleigh Salterton couple Alan and Faye Pratt are preparing to throw open the gates of their vineyard to celebrate Devon Wine Week May 29-June 6 - as part of English Wine Week.

Mr and Mrs Pratt will from 10.30am until 4pm on bank holiday Monday, May 31, showcase their rose wine at Lily Farm, in Dalditch Lane, Knowle.

Throughout the day there will be the chance to sample and buy the Budleigh-grown wine.

There will also be guided and self-guided tours around the sloping vineyard.

Entry is 3 and a donation will be made to Hospiscare.

Those interested in going along are asked to make an appointment with Mr and Mrs Pratt.

Mr Pratt said: "On this open day we will be launching the rose. It is a lot lighter than the red. A lot of people seem to like the rose.

"We had enough to make 15 litres."

The popularity of Lily Farm's wine prompted Mr and Mrs Pratt to apply for a permanent licence to sell their product.

Mr Pratt said the move was driven by scores of people asking where they could regularly buy the wine.

Visitors attending this year's open day will sample the fruits of the vineyard in the couple's new tasting room, made up of French barrels within a barn.

To make an appointment to attend the open day, contact Mr and Mrs Pratt on (01395) 443877.
