Police have teamed up with traders in Exmouth in a bid to tackle the problem of rough sleepers blocking shop fire exits.
It comes after Magnolia Centre businesses raised concerns with officers and reported finding syringes, litter and personal items.
A police spokesman said: “Officers from the neighbourhood police team are in regular contact with the Open Door centre in order to share information which could assist with vulnerable people getting help. Early morning and late-night patrols have taken place alongside more proactive measures in regard to signposting individuals towards homeless organisations who could assist them with temporary accommodation.”
