Police action to ban beggars

Exmouth police are gathering evidence in a bid to stamp out begging in the street.
The move comes after the neighbourhood police team said it had received ‘numerous reports’ of antisocial behaviour in the town centre.
Culprits caught begging could be banned from entering areas of Exmouth outlined by the police.
A police spokesperson said: “We are collating evidence to apply for a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), replacing the Antisocial Behaviour Order (ASBO) and, upon a successful conviction, conditions of the CBO could include an exclusion from a defined area.
“A female Exmouth resident who has been persistently begging and targeting people for money has been formally entered into the ASBO escalation process, which could lead to a CBO.”
