I am writing regarding the controversy relating to the closure of certain post offices.Firstly, I wish to emphasise that I fully support the post offices in their fight against closure, as I strongly believe that need should be the primary factor when considering the spending of public money, rather than economic factors. My purpose in writing is to ask the people who support the closure of the post offices to examine their consciences and ask themselves if they delighted in the destruction of the mining communities under Margaret Thatcher. This was done in the name of economy without due regard for social purposes (the same argument put forward regarding the closure of the post offices).Perhaps hypocrisy and self-interest is rife and flourishing.David Woolger,Flat 8, St Saviours House, Church Street, Exmouth
