Please keep off

It’s that time of year again, when the sun starts to appear and the Strand ‘garden’ is getting busy with locals and holidaymakers alike.
Please could I appeal (again) through your paper for the mooted protective fence - not, I hasten to add, a steel cage - for the Strand War Memorial to be put in place sooner rather than later?
It is distressing to see, as I did today, the names of those who served being jumped on/run on/slid over, while the cross and surrounds is used as a climbing frame or obstacle course.
I don’t blame the younger children - who don’t appreciate what they are doing - but feel that a simple, small, preventative fence/cordoning system (perhaps with polite discreet signs asking people to keep off the memorial?) would act as a physical signal as well as a symbol to adults that they should not allow children to run over the memorial.
It would also encourage older children not use it as a part of the rest of the skateboard/bike park that the centre of the Strand can resemble.
