Now is the time to comment on the major planning application ref: 11/1251/MOUT to build 48 dwellings on the allotments site in Greenway Lane.

Many allotment holders and local residents are already aware of the plans and believe that the development would have an adverse impact not only on us, but on the town as a whole.

Everyone knows the problems of driving through Greenway Lane and the difficult accessibility of the site, but the applicant’s transport statement fails to mention the narrowness (six metres, with no pavement) of the railway bridge where Leas Road joins Station Road/Upper Stoneborough Lane and the dangers where Moor Lane meets Bedlands Lane.

For wildlife, the construction phase ‘could sever the east-west corridor for bats’ and ‘the removal of 165m of species rich hedgerow would be a certain adverse impact at parish level in the short term’.

We are surprised that the developers are confident of the ‘long-term benefits for wildlife’. Grass snakes and slow worms which thrive on this site will have to be relocated.

East Devon District Council planning department wants to hear from you in the consultation period BEFORE the July 6.

Please also send a copy to Budleigh Town Council. Don’t delay!
