Please be aware

I have noticed that the last few weeks the Exmouth Journal has been carrying adverts for workplace pensions.

I think this is a good idea. But people must be aware of what happens when you start your state pension.

I have a company pension and when my state pension started I had a letter from the tax office telling me that I had to pay more tax on my company pension.

I phoned the tax office and they told me that they don’t tax state pensions BUT if you have other income, ie company pension, then the two are put together, called unearned income, and taxed.

The tax office states that if I did not have other income, ie state pension, then my company pension would not be taxed.

I feel I am being victimised for having a company pension.
