Doctors from Exmouth and the surrounding area have urged patients to help take pressure off health services by cancelling appointments they are unable to attend.

GP practices from the NHS Woodbury Exmouth and Budleigh (WEB) locality say patients who must miss an appointment should cancel as soon as possible, so this can then be offered to another patient.

Doctors say in December there were 635 appointments which were not attended or cancelled, so were not available to other patients. This is equivalent to 100.5 hours of missed appointments, or more than two full-time working weeks.

A spokesperson said: “We really appreciate your cooperation in helping us help the NHS to provide the great service we have become accustomed to.”
