GARDENERS will be able to bag a bargain in Otterton on Saturday May 2, when St Michael's Church holds its annual plant sale and coffee morning to raise funds for essential repairs. The event, in Otterton Village Hall, from 10.30am to noon, includes cake stalls, bric-a-brac tables and a raffle. Admission is 1 and includes coffee and biscuits. Having recently spent 600 on cleaning its windows, the church is now seeking around 30,000 to renovate its 19th century reredos - the ornamental panel behind the altar.Churchwarden June Kennard-Simpson said: "The reredos is crumbling badly and needs to be refaced. Our aim is to restore it to its former glory in the next couple of years. "We are hoping to obtain a grant from the Devon Historic Churches Trust, but need to raise as much money as possible through our own efforts."All the plants at Saturday's sale have been grown and donated by local gardeners.
