Exmouth Police Station is to stay in its current location for the foreseeable feature, after plans for its replacement were delayed.

Devon and Cornwall Police announced last year that the station was earmarked for replacement in 2017-18, either at the current site or at a new location, as part of a force-wide programme of cost cutting.

However, Alison Hernandez, elected as the new Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Commisioner (PCC) in May, has now put this programme on hold, meaning the plans for Exmouth Police Station have also been delayed.

A spokesperson for the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner said: “Following her election, Alison Hernandez took the decision to put on hold the force’s estate rationalisation programme so that she could further assess how existing buildings can be best utilised.

“Exmouth is one of a number of projects which were in that programme to be affected by this decision. It remains the intention to upgrade and move Exmouth Police Station, but it is absolutely correct that this will not happen in the foreseeable future.”
