A new bakery is set to come to Budleigh Salterton’s town centre after planning approval was granted.

East Devon District Council planning officers gave the green light to an application to change the use of an existing industrial building in Perriams Place to create a bakery and tasting bar.

The plans also included installing a three-bed apartment on the first floor of the building. The premises used to be the home of Otter Vale Products Company which has since relocated to Cullumpton.

There will also be two car parking spaces either for staff or customers sampling the produce in the businesses shop-front café.

Planning permission has now been granted meaning applicant Georgie Porgie Puddings Ltd – currently based in South Farm Road – can open a bakery in the town centre.

The plan’s design and access statement said: “The proposal would be an improvement in terms of being a positive contribution to the local character.”
