Plans have been put forward to demolish an Exmouth nightclub and replace it with flats.

A planning application has been submitted to East Devon District Council for a block of 10 flats to be built on the site of the Q Club, in Manchester Street.

The new building would be served by eight garages.

A planning support statement with the application states: “The Q Club has been trading as a night club for many years but has suffered declining trade for some considerable time.

“This is a direct result of the changing licensing rules which allow public houses to open until the early hours and play music with dance floor facilities and this trend is unlikely to reverse.

“The applicant has actively marketed the property as a club and there has been no realistic interest for the reasons above.

“The traditional night club is unfortunately now an out-dated use.”

Exmouth Town Council will be consulted on the plan, before the district council rules on permission.
