Proposals for five new homes to be built in Exmouth have been approved by planners at East Devon District Council.

The plan is for three three-storey houses and two bungalows to be build at 12B Cyprus Road, with the existing home on the site, which dates from the 1950s, to be demolished.

Members of Exmouth Town Council’s planning committee previously voted to support the proposal.

The planning application states that the new houses on the site will be ‘energy efficient and sustainable’.

Regarding the house which currently occupies the site, it states: “The existing property has become physically and economically obsolete, given the progress in construction methods in regard to energy efficiency and the demographic of the population in requiring smaller units.

“We have attempted to review and embrace the special character of the site and its surroundings.”
