Permission is being sought to build a five-storey accommodation block at the Royal Marines Commando Training Centre in Exmouth.

The application, which includes a kit store and boot wash, was submitted to East Devon District Council (EDDC) this week.

The proposals are seeking to replace a two-storey Normandy building which was built in the late 1960s.

The application was submitted after an assessment deemed the building, which is used as living accommodating by new recruits, ‘not fit for purpose’.

The camp, which is just off the A376 at Lympstone, has a number of buildings already.

This includes 10 dormitory blocks - all four-storey baring one, a hospital, chapel, new learning centre and an educating building.

If given the go-ahead, the development will have a similar design as the other buildings on the camp.

The final decision will be made by EDDC.
