An Exmouth pharmacy is celebrating after completing a hat-trick of national awards.

Staff from Lewis Pharmacy, in Exeter Road, owned by Martyn and Jackie Lewis, last week travelled to London to pick up the Independent Community Pharmacist Magazine Award for independent pharmacy innovation.

This came after the pharmacy was previously named as Independent Pharmacy of the Year by industry magazine C and D, and also won the Pharmacy Business Awards 2015 Medicines Optimisation Award.

Martyn said: “It’s quite a coup really to have a hat-trick of awards. I don’t think it happens very often in pharmacy.”

The national recognition is for work, led by Jackie, the pharmacy has done to help its customers who are undergoing cancer treatment, with increased communication between the pharmacy and Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital allowing it to provide extra guidance to patients.

Martyn said: “Chemotherapy and that sort of treatment tends to be kept out of community, and Jackie’s trying to engage with patients and secondary care as much as possible.

“We are working with the hospital and national cancer bodies.

“Somebody in chemotherapy may assume we at the pharmacy know, but often we never do.”

Jackie said: “Patients get the support and know we’re here to answer any questions, and we can signpost them to local charities or back to hospital and their GP as necessary.”
