PEOPLE are being asked to nominate outstanding volunteer groups worthy of receiving an award from the Queen.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Devon, Eric Dancer, CBE, has called on people across East Devon to nominate volunteer groups for the 2010 Queen's Award for Voluntary Service before the September 30 deadline.

The honour has a status, equivalent to being made an MBE.

The Lord-Lieutenant said: "Volunteering groups in Devon make a huge contribution to people's lives, often without praise for the incredible job they do.

"A prestigious national honour such as The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service can prove invaluable in so many ways to their ongoing success.
