AN award-winning Otterton holiday park is celebrating further success in reaching the finals of the region's top tourism competition.

The Carter family, of Ladram Bay Holiday Park, learned this week that their business was named as a regional finalist in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards.

Widely recognised as the Oscars of the tourism industry, the competition celebrates the West Country's leading providers of visitor services and accommodation.

Ladram Bay was founded 70 years ago on a former farm run by the Carter family, and has grown from a small camping site to one of the region's most popular holiday parks.

Their success comes after what general manager Claire Williams describes as a 'bumper year' for the park, when it received a record number of visitors.

She said: "...Ladram Bay was one of just five finalists to make it through to the last stages of judging, beating hundreds of other parks in the South West.

"In addition to this latest official recognition, the park has won many awards over the years for its high quality standards and concern for the natural environment."

Facilities include a swimming pool, entertainment centre, restaurant and plenty of children's activities - plus a private beach open only to park guests.

Visitors are able to rent a luxury caravan holiday home, or bring their own touring caravan or tent.

Accolades also include a special conservation award from botanist David Bellamy, who said that the family had created "an exciting wildlife wonderland, which is brimming with bio-diversity".

The park has also won awards from the Green Tourism Business Scheme and Jurassic Coast Quality Business Scheme, plus a tourist board rose award for the standard of the park's accommodation.
