WOODBURY Common was packed with huntsmen and their supporters for the annual Boxing Day hunt.

The East Devon Hunt meet, which was attended by 60 horses, took place at Woodbury Castle, on Woodbury Common, drawing in a large crowd of supporters and tourists.

Hunt master Michael Moore and his wife Mary Moore, who have been involved with the group for over 10 years, said there was a higher turnout this year because of the fine weather.

Mrs Moore said: "There was a very large crowd of spectators passing brandy and port round in paper cups and the Common is the ideal place to have all the horses in one place while keeping the tradition alive."

Since the fox hunting ban in 2005 the East Devon hunt lays a scent trails for the hounds to follow instead.

The next East Devon Hunt meet will be held at Ottery St Mary Square on New Years Day.
