This October sees the launch of the Otter Valley Association's Community Fund, inviting local groups to apply for money to spend on local, environmentally based activities.Promoting an awareness of the natural history, geography and geology of the Lower Otter Valley is a key objective of the OVA. The purpose of its pilot scheme is to fund groups which are unable to finance projects themselves. This is a new venture by the OVA, which hopes that, by giving a helping hand to groups with bright ideas for activities that fall within the association's objectives, it can promote knowledge and encourage wider participation in environmental activitiesGroups must be based in the five parishes of the Lower Otter Valley and the members resident in the area. An outline of the proposed activities and the estimated costs should be submitted on the application form by Wednesday, January 14, 2009. If approved, funds will be allocated for activities to take place between March and October 2009. The executive committee of the OVA will make the final decisions.
