New outdoor gym equipment has been installed at an Exmouth primary school.

The mix of stationary exercise machines have been provided to encourage children at Withycombe Raleigh Primary School to be more active at break times.

The equipment was purchased using some of the Government’s sports grant funding for schools and was supplied by Fresh Air Fitness.

Now children at the school have access to two arm and pedal bikes, a double air walker, a double cross-country skier and a seated leg press.

Headteacher Emma Jones said: “Lots of children had limited opportunities to be active during lockdown, so to get children enjoying physical activity in the fresh air was a priority when they returned to school.

“We looked at strategies for getting children active during break and lunchtimes as this has a positive effect on their learning in class as well as benefitting their physical and emotional wellbeing.

“The new gym has been a 'massive hit' with all the children.”
