A resident has queried why the county council is spending £1,800 on grit bins – when they are advertised for £37 in local newspapers.
County Councillor Christine Channon said she was amused when a resident sent her a newspaper cutting and wanted to know why the ‘excessive’ council expenditure.
She said following a report in the Journal the resident advised her that grit bins could be purchased which would result in a considerable saving for county hall.
She said: “Well, there are grit bins and there are grit bins.
“There are the ones you see advertised and there are the more substantial grit bins that we use. They are not the same.”
