PESKY crows were sent packing in Otterton when youngsters from Otterton Primary School held their first scarecrow day.
The youngsters worked hard all over their Easter holidays to construct a variety of scarecrows to look after the school allotment.
An Otterton school spokesperson said: "Children from all four classes brought a wild variety of scarecrows lovingly constructed over the Easter holidays, including a surfer and a rapper as well as the more traditional variety, who were introduced to their duties as the children busily planted potatoes, broad beans and runner beans."
The school was given the use of the disused site last year, only a short walk from the school, by Clinton Devon Estates.
The spokesperson added: "The pupils use their outdoor classroom for art, maths, literacy and science, as well as enjoying the fruits of their labours for tea.
