A CALL for slower driving speeds in Otterton has prompted the county council to come up with improvements to ease the problem.

Otterton parish council members recently met up with Paul Wilson, from Devon Highways, after pleas were made to cut village traffic speed to 20mph.

The village was told to include the speed limit reduction plans in the school travel plan to help secure its wishes.

Moves to cut speed were met with improvement suggestions instead after the county council said it did not have sufficient funds to carry out the changes, and the police said it did not have the power.

Ideas put forward by the Highways department included signs which indicate bends, new speed limit signs and new road markings.
