The 70th anniversary of the end of World War Two in Europe will be marked with a street party in Exmouth’s Strand this Sunday, May 10.
The party, which will mark VE Day (May 8) is being organised by the Exmouth Branch of the Royal British Legion.
The RBL is inviting residents and visitors to take tables, chairs and refreshments, from 11am until 4pm.
Songs and music of the era will be performed and display boards of pictures will be on show.
The afternoon will culminate with a service of remembrance and wreath laying at the war memorial at 3pm. A series of poems and readings will be read out.
David Turner, chairman of Exmouth RBL, said: “It will be an opportunity for many people with family links to reflect and pay homage to all the fallen.
“It is right that we take time to reflect on the sacrifices made, not just by those in the armed forces, but by civilians, like the land girls, and make sure that Exmouth remembers those who gave so much for our freedom.”
It is hoped that service associations and cadets will attend, together with the mayor and councillors.
