THE town hall reiterated their pledge to adopt the Rifles regiment - after they held a one minute silence in honour of the fallen.
Four members of the Rifles died in Afghanistan last month, and town councillors before the commencement of the town council meeting on Monday paid tribute to them.
The town will officially adopt the Rifles on Saturday April 25 with a parade involving Army dignitaries and civic leaders, starting in the Strand Gardens.
The parade will then march past the Town Hall, via Alexandra Terrace and along the Esplanade to the Pavilion.
The decision to adopt the rifles was taken in a meeting at the town hall between Major Jon Jellard, the Rifles' Regimental Secretary, town councillors and Mayor Joy Whipps, East Devon District Council, Exmouth Police and representatives from the Royal British Legion in January.
