Plans for Mcdonalds in Salterton Road to be allowed to open 24 hours a day have been recommended for refusal by town planners.
The restaurant chain had asked to change the conditions of its planning permission in order to allow the extended opening.
However, Withycombe Raleigh councillor Brenda Taylor and the Exmouth Society both told planners that the application should be recommended for refusal, on the grounds that relaxing the restaurant’s opening hours would set a precedent that other takeaways in the town centre could look to follow.
The planners agreed with their concerns, and recommended the application for refusal.
It will now be considered by East Devon District Council.
