Not to blame

PUBLISHED: 07:00 16 March 2013

Following the granting of permission for the judicial review of the Longboat decision EDDC appears to be playing the blame game on costs.

The Budleigh Journal of March 7, quoted an East Devon District Council (EDDC) spokesman as saying “…we will defend the matter at the appropriate time.

“There will undoubtedly be a cost involved and this will ultimately be borne by the council tax payers of East Devon. It is too early to say what kind of amount might be involved.”

For the record: the claims we make, which EDDC has yet to answer satisfactorily, are not trivial and concern serious errors and misdirections within the planning process.

Our concerns were made known to EDDC in a series of solicitor’s letters before the relevant development management committee (DMC).

Planning and legal officers, and Councillor Mark Willamson, DMC chairman, took a calculated risk in ignoring our warnings and must now take responsibility for any consequences for the ratepayer.
