The Rev H A Gilroy from the Littleham-cum-Exmouth parish, will soon be leaving his position as assistant priest for his new appointment to a chaplaincy in the Royal Navy. Mr Gilroy is the third local priest to take up service with the Royal Navy and his departure will be regretted by many friends.

Also in the news: Budleigh Salterton residents reflect upon the gallant exploits of General M C Dempsey in France, Belgium and Holland. The General has ties with Budleigh, having paid many visits to the town to see his late aunt.

Woman pleads guilty to stealing furnishings from a rented bungalow; including a marble clock, an oak chair, curtains and two deckchairs - but denies stealing six assorted cushions.

Advert: Mitchell’s Bread - ‘I must put on my thinking cap in case I forget the bread at Mitchell’s.’
