No Exmouth Lions Club 'for the foreseeable future'

Exmouth Lions Club will not be returning in the near future, after Lions International's district governor ruled that a re-formed club could not be set up.
After the fundraising club announced last month that it would be closing due to a lack of members, former charter president Chris Stubbings told the Journal he would be leading its re-formation.
However, this was then denied by district governor Marianne Warren, who has now issued a further statement on the club’s future.
She said: “I have spoken to past members of the Exmouth Lions Club, along with Lions who were involved in the initial formation of the club some 16 years ago, and other members of the public, and have made the decision that no Lions Club is to be formed in the Exmouth area for the foreseeable future.
“It would not be conducive to the reputation of Lions Clubs International to form another club so soon after the demise of the original one.”
Ms Warren says she believes there needs to be a period of reflection, and that if an approach to the community in general should be appropriate at some time in the future, she and she alone will take this action.
She added: “Many of the previous club members have confirmed that this is their chosen direction, and I will respect their wishes, and be forever grateful, on behalf of Lions Clubs International, for the work that they have done over the years.”
