New venue for art group annual exhibition

FRIDAY, AUGUST 1: A second week of Exmouth Art Group's annual exhibition will offer members of the public the chance to see the 350-plus pieces making up a vibrant show. The group, which boasts nearly 250 members, has moved to a new venue, Exmouth Community College's Telfe

A second week of Exmouth Art Group's annual exhibition will offer members of the public the chance to see the 350-plus pieces making up a vibrant show.The group, which boasts nearly 250 members, has moved to a new venue, Exmouth Community College's Telfer Building, after leaving Elizabeth Hall.More than 100 artists, amateur and professional, have submitted work for this year's show, which includes 3D pieces and sculpture for the first time. Artists could submit up to five pieces each for consideration for the show, testament to the Group's productivity.President Colin Marshall said: "The exhibitions are important as they bring visitors to the town and money for local charities. "They are also important to our members, a high proportion of whomexhibit. "We are about the largest art group in East Devon and we make a contribution to the creative life of our town."The group's 2008 show was opened by College Principal Tony Alexander last Wednesday, July 23. Artists curating the exhibition will collect donations for the Exmouth Hospital League of Friends. A raffle for one of the members' paintings - Jean Esther Brock's Towards Lympstone - will also raise funds.The show, at the Community College in Gipsy Lane, runs until August 9 - 10am to 6pm weekdays, weekends 10am to 4.30pm - entrance 50p.
