PEOPLE who consider themselves to look younger than they are can buy a new identification card to use when purchasing age restricted products.
A national scheme, called Validate UK, has been launched as a voluntary proof of age card for people.
It aims to ensure that age restricted products are only sold to those legally allowed to buy them.
Barry Sleight, alcohol licensing officer at Exmouth police, said: "We have gone to off licenses, libraries and post offices with leaflets promoting these cars.
"To authorise the application of a card you must get someone of a certain professional standing, like an MP, social worker or bank manager, to verify you are who you say you are."
The scheme is endorsed by the Government and has the support of the Association of Chief Police Officers, the Trading Standards Institute and the Home Office.
The cards bear a distinctive hologram which allows retailers the assurance that it is genuine.
