More than £14,000 has been raised during the inaugural year of the local branch of a cancer charity.

Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton Macmillan Cancer Support group have raised the money over the last 12 months, their first year.

Fundraising events have included a family open day at Exmouth Fire Station in August, a charity football match in September, a fashion show in October, and a 12 mile-walk with the Rotary Club of Exmouth and at Exeter Cathedral Evensong in November.

All of the money raised will go towards helping people in the area living with cancer.

Chairman Kim Bloxham said “I want to thank everyone, both individuals and local businesses, who have given us so much support and encouragement over the past year with a special thank you to the Journal.

“We have just completed an outing to Bath for the Christmas Market which was so popular we put on two coaches and a Christmas Fayre when we were partnered by Exmouth Dress Designer Nathalie K S Andrews.

“As Christmas approaches do visit the Macmillan Tree of Hope at Kings Garden Centre.”

For information about any of our events or to become a supporter please contact Kim on or 01395 273438.

Events provisionally planned for next year include the Rotary walk on April 29, car boot sale on May 7; ladies pamper evening at Knowle Village Hall on May 18 and a street collection on June 16 in Budleigh Salterton.
