Residents, gardeners, visitors and dignitaries gathered at Exmouth Allotments, in Pound Lane, for the event bathed in the warm August sunshine.

Visitors were taken on tours of the allotment site, , enjoyed the nature trail, visited the produce stall and played ‘guess the vegetable’.

There was also a decorated wheelbarrow parade featuring transport decorated by children with tinsel and paper streamers. Led by town crier Roger Bourgein and mayor Jeff Trial, the wheelbarrows were then ably pushed by mums and dads through the plots to the community garden.

Carolyn Priest, of Exmouth Allotments, said: “Experienced growers, first-time visitors and novices mingled and many just sat and enjoyed the beautiful view across the Exe.
