THE latest environmental film by Exmouth Community college students, Ecologic, premiered last week in front of a specially invited audience

Ecologic is presented by ECC students and written by Dan Eynon, Head of Geography, and will now be distributed to schools across the South West.

The film explores how we can save and generate energy in an ecologically friendly manner and Devon companies featured in the film were local renewable energy specialists - Sungift Solar from Exeter and Nu-Heat from Honiton.

The views of Exmouth residents are featured in the film while some of the filming is at Crealy Adventure Theme Park where managing director, Angela Wright, demonstrated the work done at the park to conserve energy.

The film features a fantastic animation sequence drawn by a talented animator from Plymouth University.

Filmed by Pangeae TV it is the sequel to last year’s film Think Deep described as an ‘innovative resource’ for secondary schools on sustainable local fishing and the food we get from the sea.

Sponsored by East Devon and Exmouth Community College, as part of the college Community Education funding, the film is directed Hannah Vincent and presented by college students Poppy Fardell, Sam Arthur and Liz Healey who had to audition to get a role.

Dan Eynon said: “Following on from ‘Think Deep’ we wanted to produce another teaching resource that encouraged people to think positively about the idea of Sustainable Development.

“Originally we thought about producing a version of ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ for East Devon but decided that it was too easy to make yet another film about possible future disaster.

“Instead, we wanted to make a film that shows people that there are lots of things going on locally that can help tackle the problems caused by our uses of energy.

“As new technologies and new ideas develop, there are more and more possibilities for people to be more efficient - as long as they are willing to change their own behaviour to help these ideas work.

“Hopefully this film puts this message across in an engaging and entertaining way.”

Ecologic is to be distributed free on DVD to Devon schools and beyond as a teaching resource.
