New Budleigh 'kick-around' area?

A 'kick-around area' made from artificial turf should be considered next to the football club.

Town councillor Lynda Evans made the suggestion at the last town council meeting after a mum had complained to her about the lack of facilities for her son.

The town council was discussing East Devon District Council’s open space questionnaire.

Councillor Evans said: “We could ask them to include a children’s play area on The Green.

“I had a request from a mother with a young boy to have an artificial kick-around spot, maybe near the football club, so he wouldn’t get so filthy.”

After a councillor retorted that ‘boys are supposed to get filthy’, she added: “Yes, but you are not the one who has to wash their clothes!”

Councillor Alan Dent said: “The problem with artificial turf is that there is a real risk of injury.”
