AGE Concern Exmouth is unveiling a new information and advice office in the town centre for the over 50s.The new office, in 36A Rolle Street, will cost 10,000 a year and will open at the end of the month. The new centre will have full disabled access and provide a much-needed and sought-after information and advice service for older people.Charity bosses have added that the new office will not replace the services at the Exmouth and District Age Concern in New Street, Exmouth.Landon House, at 8 New Street, will continue providing seven day-a-week lunch clubs, day care and social events including bingo, craftwork, keep fit, walks and day trips. From the end of next month the new office will be the main contact for any enquiries provided by Age Concern Exmouth.Trustee Graham Martin said: "It is anticipated, subject to alterations and preparation, the new office will open its doors late February."The opening of the new information office will be the culmination of the hard work of staff volunteers and the diligence of the management team whose stewardship of Age Concern Exmouth has secured such a necessary outlet."The office will also be the new home of Steve and administration staff and will be the 'route of public access' to Age Concern Exmouth. He added: "We needed to open a new office. Landon House is a converted pub in a row of terraced houses; the stairway is inaccessible and unsuitable."There is no parking outside."The office will open partly thanks to funds raised through the Corporate Sponsorship Scheme, introduced last year, where local businesses contribute in exchange for publicity. However, they still need to raise half of the money, 5,000, and Mr Martin appealed to other firms to join 28 other businesses and sign up to the Corporate Sponsorship Scheme.Other funding has come from grants, legacies, donations and 'prudent' management. He added: "The new office will generate a number of voluntary opportunities in information and advice, as well as access to voluntary posts in other areas of work."Posts available include admin, telephone befriending, drivers, fundraising, information, advice and advocacy, day care and community care, voluntary visiting, hospital visiting, social groups and coach trips. You can now access the new website at: www.ageconcernexmouth.co.uk
