A plannning application has been entered to ‘reconfigure’ the Cat and Fiddle Pub, Clyst St Mary, and build a 33-bed hotel on-site.
A new 33-bed hotel could be built in Clyst St Mary if a major planning application gets the go-ahead.
St Austell Brewery has entered a proposal to redesign the Cat and Fiddle Pub, in Clyst St Mary, and build a new two-storey hotel in the existing car park.
If given the go-ahead the pub and hotel would operate together with the pub being managed by the brewery to ‘maintain control’ of the whole site.
The plan’s design and access statement said: “It is considered that the proposals will provide an attractive, welcoming and inviting atmosphere, both internally and externally for visitors and local residents.
“The proposal will provide a high quality hotel that will improve the appearance of the surrounding area and enhance the street scene.”
The pub, which is owned by St Austell Brewery, would undergo a transformation under the application with the creation of a new carvery and an indoor children’s play section. The restaurant dining area would also be expanded to 240 covers.
The hotel, placed on the southern boundary of the exisiting car park, would have 33 en-suite rooms, a fully-manned reception desk and office, a waiting area and small meeting room.
The proposal also would provide 154 car parking spaces with 13 of those planned to be in ‘close proximity’ to the hotel.
East Devon District Council will make the final decision on the application.
