Regarding the latest letter about why we should not have an Asda in Exmouth. The reader says the supermarket would have a detrimental effect on shopkeepers in town, as they also sell clothes, hardware, entertainment equipment etc.. All I can say is that if the council, when Tesco came to town, had added a proviso that they sold groceries and nothing else, and insist ed on the same with Asda, the town would not be affected. In fact, Asda would enhance the town by drawing people to the centre. This would have a knock-on effect as the local shops would prosper, ensuring a happy town all round. It seems to me that everybody who complains/moans about improving our town never come up with viable ways in which they would like to see positive change. So, unless any readers/writers have anything constructive to say, then please keep your negativity to yourselves. It really does not help. Jon Watson, (via e mail).
