Officers have been helped by members of the public who have reported motorcycles being ridden in the Woodbury Castle and Four Firs areas.
The police said five culprits have been slapped with fixed penalty notices and ordered to pay �30.
They were also warned notice under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 - meaning the vehicle's details are entered on the police national computer.
Police community support officer Donna Baker said: "If the vehicle is seen again being used in the same manner it can be seized by the police resulting in a fee for the release of �110."
Concerns have been raised about the damage caused to area used by motorcyclists, which is pebble heathland, an internationally-designated site of Special Scientific Interest, and a fragile environment.
Anyone who spots motorbikes being ridden over the common is urged to contact the police at the time of the incident, on 08452 777444, quoting reference KE/10/1355.
