SCORES of motorbikes powered through the streets of Topsham as part of a funeral cortege to honour one of Exeter's best known motorcyclists.

Around 50 bikes joined the funeral procession for Charlie Plain, of Clyst Road, Exeter, who was a former speedway rider and president of the city's classic motorcycle club.

The procession, led by a classic Harley Davidson, included members of the club. They rode their bikes to Clyst St George George to pay their last respects. Mr Plain, who was 85, was a former electrician and plumber.

He was the oldest riding member of both the Exeter British Motor Cycle Club and the Exeter Classic Motorcycle Club.
