MORE than 704,000 adults in the South West are playing sport at least three times a week.

New research, conducted by the Office of National Statistics, has found the number of people partaking in sport has increased by 635,000 since the London Olympic and Paralympic bid was won in 2005.

Key findings from the research also included 236,500 adults contributing to at least one hour a week to volunteering in sport and more than 1m being members of a club.
