MONEY talks - East Budleigh residents are being invited to pay £5 to have a say in how their community shop is run.East Budleigh community shop committee has circulated leaflets throughout the village inviting people to sign up for membership - or buy a £50 bond allowing them to invest in the shop and help secure its future financially. The scheme is already proving popular because, since last week's leaflet drop, some 40 people have already pledged their fivers - and £6,000 has been received in bonds. District councillor Malcolm Florey said the financial support guaranteed residents could have a say over the way the shop was run and it allowed them to actively take part in the community shop meetings."This just shows we have the support for the shop in the village," said Cllr Florey. "If you don't want to pay £5 it's perfectly acceptable. It wouldn't exclude anybody from using the shop."The village is currently divided over the proposed community shop. Customers loyal to the Shop on Wheels - serving the village since 2006 - say the mobile facility is adequate. Cllr Florey said the village had expressed the need for a permanent shop. l Comment on this story at www.exmouthjournal.co.uk
