THE police have revealed a body found in the water at Sidmouth on Saturday is thought to be a 39-year-old male who was reported missing from the London area on Friday July 11.

THE police have revealed a body found in the water at Sidmouth on Saturday is thought to be a 39-year-old male who was reported missing from the London area on Friday July 11.

The police say they are not treating his death as suspicious.

His body was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital mortuary for his next of kin to carry out a positive identification.

The body of a man dressed in jeans and a white t-shirt was discovered by a fisherman at 7.30am at the base of cliffs at Jacobs Ladder beach.

The Sidmouth Rescue boat team was sent to recover the body at around 8am on Saturday.

Exmouth coastguard team was on Saturday afternoon tasked to search the area for the man's rucksack, which was spotted on a steep slope above the cliff.

It was eventually retrieved by Portland coastguard rescue helicopter.
