Budleigh Salterton Library has confirmed details of its three-week closure for essential maintenance.

The library’s closure begins on Monday, March 12 and runs until Tuesday, April 3.

The library will re-open on Wednesday, April 4.

A mobile service – with a different selection of books – will be available on Mondays and Thursdays to cover the closure period.

During the closure, the library’s regular Bounce and Rhyme weekly sessions will still go ahead, but will be relocated.

“The closure is due to the need for essential maintenance, including replacing the front door and windows, and we will also be repainting some parts of the library,” said a spokesperson for Libraries Unlimited, the independent staff and community owned charity that runs Devon County Council’s public library service.

“During the closure, we have planned for a mobile library to visit Budleigh Salterton to reduce the impact on the local community.”

The mobile library will be parked outside Budleigh Salterton Public Hall off Station Road from 9.30am to 4pm on the following days: Monday, March 12; Thursday, March 15; Monday, March 19; Thursday, March 22; Monday, March 26 and Thursday, March 29.

Libraries Unlimited has apologised for any inconvenience for the closure and said: “We look forward to welcoming your back to the library on Wednesday, April 4. Don’t forget you can renew your books online at www.devonlibraries.org.uk, or by calling the customer service centre on 0345 1551001.”

The library’s weekly Bounce and Rhyme sessions – for parents, babies and toddlers – will relocate to the Norman Centre (previously the Age Concern room) in Budleigh Salterton Public Hall on Friday, March 16 and Friday, March 23, from 9am to 9.30am.

Jane Cordy, Budleigh Library’s supervisor, said: “These sessions are free and are led by Rachel and her daughter Hattie and a member of Budleigh Library staff.

“Libraries Unlimited – and Budleigh Library staff – are
very grateful to Budleigh Salterton Town Council for
giving us permission to use this room while the library is closed for the essential maintenance work.”
