THE decision to search Woodbury Common for missing Exmouth man Darren Healey was taken by police after it was discovered he had last used his mobile phone in the same area.

Records show the mobile phone mast to the rear of the Knowle recycling centre, in Salterton Road, pinpointed the last call made from the missing man's phone to have come from the Woodbury Common area.

Some 50 search and rescue personnel, including the Portland coastguard helicopter and Dartmoor Rescue, are looking for 37-year-old Mr Healey, who is described by police to be 'vulnerable' because of his mental state.

Exmouth coastguards will soon leave the common area and begin a search of the beach between Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton.

Darren has short dark brown hair, is 6ft 1ins tall, around 12 stone and usually wears jeans and a t-shirt or hoody.

Anyone with information about him, or might have seen him, is asked to call the police on 08452 777444.
