Staff at a school for children with special needs are celebrating after government inspectors gave them a positive report.

Mill Water School, based on the grounds of Bicton College, East Budleigh, was given a ‘good’ rating by an Ofsted assessor.

This comes two years after it was told the school ‘required improvement’.

Following a visit to the school earlier this year, inspector Jen Southall said: “The drive, determination and energy of leaders have led to significant improvements since the last inspection.”

In this report, the school was rated as outstanding for personal development and behaviour.

It was also rated as good for leadership, teaching, outcomes for pupils, early years provision and 16 to 19 study programmes.

Interim headteacher Clive Padgett said: “We are so pleased that our progress has been recognised.

“This result is a testament to all in school who have been unrelenting over time in pursuit of excellence.”
