Michael Caines’ plan for a waterfront restaurant in Exmouth has been described as ‘brilliant’, ‘excellent’ and ‘fantastic’ after it was announced yesterday.
The waterfront restaurant, part of a new seafront development in Exmouth, includes a bar and café area.
Michael is keen to point out that the food will be ‘very different’ from the fine dining available at his other business, Lympstone Manor.
Work is expected to begin on site in late summer, 2019; the restaurant is expected to open in the summer 2020.
Since the Journal broke the news yesterday the new eatery has been the main topic of conversation on social media.
Commenting on the Journal’s Facebook page, Sharron Retter-Hyde said: “Congratulations Michael Caines. You have worked so hard and deserve all the success that you have brought to this beautiful area of ours. Plus you are just a kind and lovely gentleman.”
Craig Mayo agreed with Sharron’s sentiments, he commented: “Fantastic news can’t wait for it. If it’s a patch on Lympstone Manor it will be inundated with reservations.”

A fact not lost on Adam Fitzgerald, he said: “Brilliant news. Love the apprentice aspect too.
“MC does a hell of a lot of work with Exeter College on this front as well. Can only be good news for the town.”
Matthew Ford hopes the restaurant ushers in a new era for the town, he commented: “It’s about time Exmouth had a place like this , Exmouth has been stuck in 70s for too long all you can get down the seafront is cheap fried food at expensive prices and when there’s a bit of bad weather no bloody opens.”
There has been some concern on social media about how much the food will cost, Donna M Hollomby said: “Sounds fab as long as it’s reasonably priced.”
Kay Beresford went further: “I’m a fan of Caines, but you have to ask just how many locals will have the financial means to eat there.
“I get that it will probably be marketed at those with deep pockets, but I fear that it will be of limited use to most Exmouth residents.”
Justin Woodcock responded to the criticism suggesting the eatery will be somewhere to go for a treat, he said: “If you can’t afford it don’t berate those that might be able to, that’s life. Personally I’ll happily save up for a trip there.”
