FAMILIES who have lost a child or baby are being invited to Exeter Saturday July 5 to take part in a memorial planting at a newly created children's garden.

The service will be held at 10am in the children's garden at Higher Cemetery, Heavitree.

Exeter City Council's bereavement service began work on the garden in late 2007 and development is continuing with the creation of a flower bed at the feet of the recently renovated angel memorial.

The event is being held at a weekend so that young brothers and sisters may attend.

During the memorial a poem in memory of children will be read by local pastor Alison Orchard.

Devon county councillor Kevin Mitchell said: "The death of a child or a baby is a tragic event in anyone's life. Here at bereavement services we hope this event will be a positive experience for those coping with such a loss.

"It is intended for this to be the first of what will become an annual event in memory of all lost children and we would welcome any suggestions people may have on future events."

For more information, or to confirm attendance, contact Bereavement Services on (01392) 265370.
