FRIENDS, town dignitaries and residents turned out to celebrate the 101st birthday of Budleigh Salterton s Gwen Aldhouse.
FRIENDS, town dignitaries and residents turned out to celebrate the 101st birthday of Budleigh Salterton's Gwen Aldhouse.
More than 40 people including residents and Friends of the Shandford Care Home joined town mayor Chris Kitson on Friday in the celebrations.
Gwen, who has been in the care home since 2004, celebrated with a glass of two of sherry and a birthday cake - while Cllr Kitson presented her with a bouquet of flowers and a card.
Care home manager Susan Bissett said: "She is a very friendly chatty lady; she loves anything to with horses and dogs. She loves animals."
Cllr Kitson said: "She is a very nice lady, very alert.
"We had a lot to talk about as she spent her youth in the same area as I come from, Cheam in Surrey, where she spent a lot of her time riding horses.

"I don't think she has any family so it was nice to see so many residents turn out to celebrate her 101st birthday her.
