EXMOUTH mayor Councillor Joy Whipps this week officially opened Paulo's Americano Circus after lobbying for the show to be held in the town.Cllr Whips has opened the show for the last two years when the circus performed at Darts Farm, in Topsham, and has liaised with the Paulo family and the district council to see the circus was held in Exmouth. The show started on Wednesday, October 22, runs until Sunday, October 26, and will be held at the Imperial Recreation Ground.Throughout the week the circus will be collecting in aid of the mayor's chosen charity, the Exmouth St John Ambulance.A host of entertainment is promised for visitors watching the show.Sky high superhero Spiderman will set pulses racing as he risks life and limb on the spine tingling wheel of death. This petrifying pendulum of pandemonium will spin Spiderman high into the roof of the big top, where he will need nerves of steel as he runs, jumps and skips around the giant gyrating wheel.Clowns Kakehole and Popol return fresh from being voted the UK's best comedy act in the National Circus Awards.Other highlights in an action packed two hour production will include Claudio, the world's wackiest wire walker, springboarding acrobats from the Romanian State Circus, high flying aerial artistry from Angelo, and the Paulo sisters with their High School hula hoops.Cllr Whipps said: "I am thrilled that the big top is up in Exmouth. The circus is a brilliant show for all the family and will hopefully raise some funds for an important local charity."Popol the clown, aka Paul Carpenter, 34, said: "We meet lots of mayors and most are terribly dull, but Joy is fabulous fun. We are hoping to get her up on the trapeze during our stay. If she is missing from the next council meeting it could be because she has run away with the circus!"It is appearing at the Imperial Recreation Ground from Wednesday 22 until Sunday October 26. Tickets are from £8 child, £10 adult. The box office telephone number is 0702 112 5454
